New York State has initiated a campaign called Naturalize NY to encourage immigrants to who are here with a Green Card to work towards obtaining citizen status. However, one concern that many people who want to obtain a naturalized status have is that they may not be able to afford the fees associated with filing. The naturalization application fee is $725, which is nearly the cost of rent for some people and they don’t have the funds to part with that much money. As part of the Naturalize NY campaign, you can register with the state and win a chance to be selected for a fee voucher.
In order to register for this lottery system, you will have to register by July 28, 2017, so act quickly! Any person who lives in New York State and is a legal permanent resident with a Green Card. You will also have to meet certain economic qualifications based on income. When you register for the program, you will need a valid email address, your Green Card and your tax return or pay stubs from 2016. You must be 18 years or older in order to register.
If you win a voucher, you will receive an email, text, or call that indicates you have one. After you have been notified, you have 30 days to schedule an appointment with your local Opportunity Center and submit your application for naturalization. It is important that you submit your application within 30 days because if not, your voucher may expire.
