The Department of Homeland Security understands that many people living in the United States have obligations that require them to travel outside of the country. They have offered a new set of programs that allow frequent travelers to join a plan that makes it easier to go through customs and border protection. There are a few different programs that may suit individual travelers’ needs. There are five programs that make expedited clearance available to those who are deemed eligible.
One of the most beneficial programs to frequent world travelers is Global Entry. This program allows members to check-in at any of the 52 participating airports throughout the United States and a few international airports. This allows you to skip the processing line, receive a TSA Pre-check, and makes international travel easier. This program has partnerships with the Netherlands, South Korea, Germany, Panama, and Mexico to make it easy for people who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents to participate.
DHS has also created other programs that make traveling internationally to and from the United States. NEXUS is beneficial for those who frequently travel to and from Canada. It is available to U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents, and Canadian citizens. The other program is known as SENTRI, which expedites the customs process at the Southern border ports for travelers who have been pre-approved and deemed “low-risk.”
